How to Identify Physical Traits of Real Emerald Stone

As a gemologist, emeralds were my favourite. Their intensity of green, soft insertions, and natural lustre narrate. In this brief guide, I will explain how to identify genuine emeralds, while also highlighting what distinguishes authentic gems from treated ones.

My First-Hand Observations of Emeralds

I have been involved with natural gemstones for several decades and thus have an insight into emeralds. Thousands of stones have been laid in my hands in our stone shop in Delhi, and each has its own character. It might be thought that all emeralds are alike, but you know it is not so. The best emeralds will give up a rich, nearly garden-like gleam, and the imitations will look dim, or too monotonous to appear refined.

Probably the most indicative thing is the inclusions in emeralds (the jardin). Most times, I tend to demonstrate to the clients how these inclusions resemble natural designs that are not witnessed by air bubbles or glassy surfaces in synthetic stones. This cannot be entirely photographed, but must be learned in some way by actually looking at it.

Expert Clues: Transparency and Colour

Through training, I learnt that the intensity of colour is important. Real emeralds are emeralds of a bright green colour that is clear even with magnification. When colour is flat or too dark, or it appears to be some green paint beneath the surface, I would say it is probably being treated or an imitation.

Transparency also matters. Authentic stones strike a balance between being transparent and having depth. Any stone which is too transparent and has never inoculated itself with its natural inclusions should always be suspect. Practically, I get to use gemological tools, but to determine the flow of light through a stone, even a purchaser can do that with natural daylight.

Building Authority Through Trust and Certification

At Brahma Gems, we provide a certified certification on every emerald that we sell. This is something that I have insisted on personally since certificates are evidence in their own right. In their absence, authenticity is feeble. Stone that is untreated or is enhanced is confirmed by an independent lab report.

Clients will usually question why the staff have to take such care. The answer is easy; gemstones are valuable on a financial level and also in astrology. Just as one should be sceptical when intending to buy emerald stone, the same scepticism applies to emeralds. There must be correspondence between certificates, a physical examination and the reputation of the dealer.

Signs That Inspire Confidence

  • Denser: The true emeralds are unique in terms of density. They are not light when in hand like glass. The trims are also calculated, and they aim at curbing wastage.

  • Cool Touch: Natural emeralds feel cool to the skin, whereas the imitations usually get hot rather fast.

  • Dainty Glitter: Emeralds do not sparkle as much as diamonds. When a green stone resembles a piece of glitter, I would claim it to be not genuine.

My Own Experience With Clients

I have experienced over the years people who fell under wrong guidance, forcing their way to us. A gentleman purchased what he thought was an original emerald gemstone, only to discover that his purchase was dyed quartz. The experience made it clear to me why transparency is important. He said later on, when he picked an emerald in our shop, that the peace of mind made the gem worth nothing less.

This is what is making me frequently draw parallels between the process of purchasing the emeralds and when customers want to buy emerald stone. In either of the two, he cannot assume authenticity. It is gained as a result of proper selection, documentation and reputation of the dealer.

Linking Experience With Wider Expertise

My years in the trade may permit it to be said that the slightest differences have a touch that I am sensitive to. But I do accept that no man would wish to depend on his own opinion. The assessment is complete with instruments, testing in the lab, and good gemology. It is this synthesis of lived experience and systematised experience, in my opinion, that is what creates certain confidence within the buyers.

Similar to how one needs to learn extensively when investigating gemstones online, a person also needs to balance visual perception with accredited evidence. It is possible to find versatility on the internet, although not all sellers will offer transparency. This is where our location with our physical presence as a gemstone shop in Delhi can assure those who like to touch and feel before they can purchase.

Practical Advice for Everyday Buyers

I would usually recommend starting small in case the person is new to emeralds. View an actual certified emerald with its own inclusions, weight, and lustre. Then contrast it with members of art. This practice trains the eye. As time goes on, one becomes increasingly confident about what is genuine and false.

Similarly, other consumers who wish to emerald original stone price are strongly advised to touch an actual Pitambari stone. By so doing, this will assist them in detecting inconsistencies in pictures or written accounts when shopping online. Similarly, individuals who are interested in purchasing the emerald stone must demand certifications and transparency prior to putting money into it.

Trust as the Foundation

Trust is not only unspoken at Brahma Gems. All our emeralds, all our natural green emerald stone and all other products that we carry are carefully selected, tested, and certified. This is a process that I have been working on for decades, and I believe that unless we have this, there is no way that we would get the long-term relationships with our clients.

It is precisely this philosophy that informs our style of selling both in-store and through online gemstone sellers. Our tracks are equally standard whether on the channels or not, as there should be no difference in terms of authenticity.
